TV-Free Day

12 January 2016

Dear Parents,
I would like to recommend you to turn your television off for one day in every week.

I think having one TV-free day each week is a good idea. Students nowadays usually spend much time on TV every day. So, on TV-free day they can enjoy their time freely, without any digital destruction, especially the TV's programs. One TV-free day each week can improve students hard motoric, because it gives them time to spend, so they can share with family, socialize and interact with people, play outside, educate themselves, try new experiences, build their mental maturity, as well as improve their abilities and talents.

Don't you think that you, as a parent, need to spend time together with your kids? Time is needed to build your family's warmth. Children and teenager spend too much time on TV's program, so why don't  you try to reduce it and take that time as the quality time for your family. By turning off televisions one day every week, every family can get many advantages, such as each of family member is able to know more about the other, so you can get a better family support in your daily life, it makes life easier and happier.

Here are some ideas to spend time without TV, maybe it will work for your family. First, you can make a small garden party. You can take your family to your backyard and grill beefs, then you play your guitar or just play a relaxing music, drink your juices, and read the story books for your kids, it seems simple but your kids will love it. Second, you can play games with your kids. The best games to substitute TV-free day of course are not digital games, you can play board games, like puzzle, sudoku, chess, or you can play active games, such as hide and seek, the cat and the mouse, and eagle vs the chicken mama. Third, you can also invite your kids friends to come to your home. Don't worry about the activities that you have to do, you can be as a teacher for them and start to teach them knowledge in light way, maybe by games, you can make your home as a small kindergarten and it will improve your kids study needs at home. Fourth, you can take your kids to your library's at home or maybe book store. You have a responsibility to teach your kids to love reading books, you can start it by buying them the books which they want or read it for them, you can also re-read your old books and tell them about the contain of the books then you quiz them about the end of the book, so they will curious and read it by themselves. Fifth, you can share your skill to your kids. Maybe you can sew, cook, shape small trees, paint walls, or just washing car. You can teach your kids to do it, it's not matter about the result, maybe they can find their hobbies, at least they will get new experience, better if later it will be their skill, who knows. Sixth, you can take a class together with your kids that you both want to learn. Maybe both of you want to learn photography, swimming, cooking, ice-skating, archery, or horsing. You can spend time together and both of you learn new things. Seventh, you can make handcrafting with your kids that you or your kids can use. Teach your kids to make their small needs by themselves, not all things have to be bought, some things are able to make it by ourselves, like key chains, pin, necklace, bracelet, head accessories, mini bag, pencil ornaments, and many more. Eighth, you can fix broken things together. Maybe you have a watch which doesn't work, a broken bicycle, or a broken cupboard. You can do something with it and teach your kids how to fix something, solve problems, although it takes more time to have it done or in the end you still can't fix it, at least you have taught them how to work hard to do something and whatever the result, you have done your best and it's still okay. Ninth, you can take an evening walk together. In the day, maybe you are busy with your own activities, so why don't you spend time to walk together in evening around your community and see some stars, how beautiful, isn't it? Tenth, you can do something for someone else. You can take your kids to orphanage and share with them, or take your kids to villages and teach them to give their foods, old clothes and toys for other. It will grow their caring sense and watering their heart.

Whatever you do, I can make sure that you will be more creative and productive if you can take your TV-free time optimally and wisely. Let's start to do it now, then look what will come to your life.

Thank You,

Peace

“Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.”
― Albert Einstein

Peace is a period of harmony between different social groups that is characterized by lack of violence or conflict behaviors, and the freedom from fear of violence. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility and retribution, peace also suggests sincere attempts at reconciliation, the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.

Need and Importance of Peace

The issue of war and peace has always been a focal issue in all periods of history and at all levels relations among nations. The concern of the humankind for peace can be assessed by taking into account the fact that all religions, all religious scriptures and several religious ceremonies are committed to the cause of peace and all these advocate an elimination of war. The Shanti Path recited by the Hindus, the sermons of Pope and the commands of all the holy scriptures of the Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and all other communities hold out a sacred commitment to peace.

Yet the international community fully realized the supreme importance of the virtue of peace against the evil of war only after having suffered the most unfortunate and highly destructive two World Wars in the first half of the 20th century. The blood soaked shreds of humanity that lay scattered in several hundred battle grounds, particularly on the soils of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, cried for peace, peace and peace on the earth.

The UN Charter and International Peace and Security

The human consciousness then rallied in the Charter of the United Nations to affirm. “We the people of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our life time has brought untold sorrow to humankind…. and to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security….. have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these aims.”

Since 1945, the United Nations and its specialized agencies, several international associations and institutions, international peace movements, global and national level human rights movements and in fact all members of the international community have been consistently and strongly advocating the need for the preservation and promotion of peace against war.

In contemporary times, the most urgent and important international objective has been to preserve protect and defend peace against terrorism and terrorist organizations like A1 Qacda, Talibans, and other enemies of peace.

How International Community has been trying to secure peace

Through international peace keeping under the aegis of the United Nations through the development and use of international law; creation of more international and regional institutions committed to promote peace, promotion of friendly cooperation for development among the member countries; popularization of peaceful means of conflict-resolution, institutionalization of relations among nations; integration of international community through strengthening of human consciousness in favour of peace against war; and by enhancing the ability for crisis-management, the humankind has been trying to secure peace against war.

Currently, through:

(i) Globalization i.e. by encouraging the free flow of people goods, information services and knowledge;

(ii) Establishment of non-official people to people socio-economic-cultural relations;

(iii) Organisation of international peace movements against nuclear weapons, armament race, militarisation, and environmental pollution;

(iv) Launching of special drives for elimination of such evils as apartheid, poverty, illiteracy; ill-health, hunger, disease, inequalities, tyranny and terrorism; and

(v) organised attempts at environment protection and protection of Human Rights of all, the international community has been making meaningful attempts to limit the chances of war.

What is Peace?

One elementary way of defining peace has been to say that peace is absence of war. This is, however, a very narrow view of peace. No doubt absence of war is the first condition of peace, yet peace is not merely an absence of war. It is in reality a condition characterised by peaceful, cooperative and harmonious conduct of international relations with a view to secure all-round sustainable development of the people of the world.

Nevertheless, since absence of war is the first condition of peace, one of the major concerns of all scholars and statesmen has been to formulate and follow the principles and devices needed for securing this primary objective. The cold war that kept the world preoccupied during 1945-90, indirectly secured this objective in a negative way by developing a balance of terror in international relations.

While it was successful in preventing a global war, it failed to prevent local wars and in fact gave rise to several tensions, stresses, strains and crises in international relations. The international community had to work very hard for keeping the conflicts and wars limited. It, however, successfully exhibited a welcome and positive ability in the sphere of crisis-management.

In fact, till today there have been present several hindrances in way of securing a stable, healthy and enduring peace. Fortunately, the final end of cold war came in the last decade of the 20th century and the world found herself living is an environment characterised by a new faith and commitment to peace, peaceful co-existence, peaceful conflict-resolution, liberalisation, cooperation for development and attempts at sustainable development.

The people began focusing their attention on the need for the protection of human rights of all, protection of environment and securing of a real and meaningful international integration. However several negative factors, ethnic conflict, ethnic violence, ethnic wars, terrorism in its several dimensions, neo-colonialism, hegemony n-hegemony and the like kept on acting as big hindrances.

The need to secure peace by controlling these evils continues to be a primary aim of international community. Crises have been repeatedly coming and these are bound to keep coming. This makes it very urgent for the humankind to prepare and act for managing crises through collective efforts and by the use of several devices.

Problem from the blogspot

I'm so sorry, really really sorry. I had some troubles with this blog, I tried to post the Dewa Athena and Tur Budaya articles yeseterday but I only could post the Merdeka Building Article. So, I just post it today. Thank you.

Dewa Athena

Dewa Athena is a kind of annual sport competition in 3 Bandung Senior High School. The activities of this events are matches, a class vs the other class. There are many kind of sports in Dewa Athena. The kind of sport that I remember are dodgeball for girls, dodgeball for boys, estafet run for girls, estafet run for boys, football for girls, football for boys, tarik tambang for girls, tarik tambang for boys, marathon run, basketball matches, badminton matches, table tennis matches, and many more. I didn't really know about Dewa Athena because I didn't have any pastime. Actually, I really wanted to join and participate this amazing event, but I had to go courses, there were also team works, sks, lintas minat, the assignments and home works left, so I couldn't participate this event. It's really hard to handle everything on when we have a really full schedule. I'm so sorry, but I will tell you what I know about Dewa Athena.

I think, Dewa Athena is a good event. We can explore our talents, ability, and play. But, I have to mark this, in my opinion Dewa Athena was not a very interesting event for us to join, especially for us who don't really like sport and don't have any pastime. Maybe, if  Dewa Athena was a bit more interesting, we would try hard to look for a short time to join the matches, as long as we had enough time.

Dewa Athena was not that bad, Dewa Athena was great if we really knew and update about the matches. I think, my classmates were enjoy the matches. Some cases, all of the students of my class didn't have time to participate the event so we were disqualified for some matches. Although I didn't attend any match of Dewa Athena, I noticed the announcement of Dewa Athena Event im Line. There were some informations about the date of the match, the time of the match, the rival of the match, and the winner of the match.

My class got 2nd rank for Girls Football and 3rd rank for Boys Dodgeball. Wow it was not bad, because we rarely can attend the event but we still got those two position. Dewa Athena for this year is my last Dewa Athena in SMA 3. Next year, we won't join Dewa Athena, because 12 grader have to focus to our study, so we will miss the cool events such Dewa Athena.

Tur Budaya

1st day

Departure

Based on the schedule, my class was grouped in Group 1. Group 1 members were XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2, XI IPA 3, XI IPA 4, and XI IPA 5. While Group 2 members were XI IPA 6, XI IPA 7, XI IPA 8, XI IPA 9, XI IPS, and XII Akselerasi. I had attended in the Kebon Kawung Station at 5.00 p.m. and we entered the train at 6.30 p.m. We used Turangga Train, it was an executive train. While Group 2 had already in vacation at 3.45 p.m. and they used Mutiara Train, it was a business train. Our train started to move at 7.00 p.m. I sat with Thariq, it was set based on the absent number. But after ticket checker had checked our tickets we could move to another seat and sat down next to whoever we wanted. I chose to sit with Yaritsa. She was so sleepy at that night, so I only played games in my iPad. At 8.00 p.m. the restoration servant in the train, gave us foods. We ate the food hungrily. It was a joyful night, almost all of my friends didn’t fall asleep till midnight, we talked and took a photos of the sleeping ones. LOL. I went to the bathroom accompanied by Hillma. Wow, it was the first time I used a bathroom in a train. I thought, it was a little bit awkward, because the train motion was not stable. After we had used the bathroom, Hillma and I looked outside from the window of the train’s door. In 30 minutes we went back to the cabin and fell asleep.

2nd day

Arrival in Surabaya

In the morning, we prepared for the arrival. I washed my face and brushed teeth, we couldn’t take a bath because of the limited time and water there. At 5.30 a.m. the servants gave us foods for breakfast. I ate the foods lazily. At 8.00 a.m. we had already in Surabaya Station. The tour leader led us to the bus. I entered Bus 5, for XI IPA 5’s students. I chose the 4th line of the seat in that bus. I sat next to Yaritsa. The tour leader gave us bottles of mineral water then we went to RM Bromo Asri for taking a bath and having a lunch.

RM Bromo Asri

It was so far from the station, so we arrived in RM Bromo Asri at 1.00 p.m. The tour leader said if it was the only restaurant in Surabaya which could handle hundred of persons. We ate the lunch but we couldn’t take a bath there because at 2.00 p.m. we had to enter the bus. The foods were not so special, but we ate the foods together so it was unforgettable. The location of this restaurant was designed well, there were many seats, bathrooms, gazebos, wide park lot, and it was green enough, full of plants.

RM Grafika Banyuwangi

At 7.00 p.m. we attended RM Grafika Banyuwangi. The bathroom was so dirty and the doors had to be repaired. The location had a beautiful sunset view, but when we looked down from the building we found so many rubbishes there, oh my God. The food was plain usual. At 8.00 p.m. we entered the bus.

Katapang Port

We continue the trip, then we arrived in Katapang  Port at 8.15 p.m. because it was not far from RM Grafika Banyuwangi. At Katapang Port, we waited for about 45 minutes, we couldn’t cross the sea because of the bad weather at that time. At 9.00 p.m. we entered the ship, and at 9.15 p.m. the ship started to move. It was the first time I cross the sea by ship. We looked the night view of ocean. We were having so much fun, we also took pictures.

Gilimanuk Port

We reached Gilimanuk Port at 10.30 p.m. We continued the trip to the hotel.

3rd day

Nirmala Hotel

We reached the hotel at 00.30 a.m. The name of the hotel is Nirmala Hotel. It was rated as a three star hotel. We had given the room list since we were in Bandung. We could choose our roommate. My roommates are Yaritsa, Lia, and Hillma. Lia took the key from the tour leader, then we went to the room in 4th floor. We entered the elevator and brought our travel bags. We entered our room then took a bath. We felt so hungry at that time, so Hillma, Yaritsa, and I went outside the hotel at 2.00 a.m. we wanted to look for foods. We walked, walked, and walked. Wow it was too far from the hotel, but there were no minimarket there. Suddenly, there were dog‘s voices, but sounds like wolves. I was very scary, I ran to the hotel as fast as I could, Yaritsa and Hillma also ran behind me. It was very tiring, we didn’t get any food but we ran and walk so far.

Breakfast Time

At 6.30 a.m. we went to the restaurant of the hotel, of course after had taken a bath and prepared everything for that day’s activities. We had a breakfast.

Tanjung Benoa

We went to Tanjung Benoa water sport at 7.30 a.m., then arrived at 8.30 a.m. There were many water sports that we could choose. There are parasailing, banana boat, donut boat, jetski, flying fish, snorkeling, diving, and a trip to Turtle Island. Actually, I wanted to play jetski, parasailing, and flying fish, but I looked the bathrooms were too dirty for me to take a bath, because we would get wet after those activities. I chose a trip to Turtle Island. We went by a boat, in the middle of the sea we fed the fishes with slices of bread, the fishes came close to our boat, wow that was wonderful. At the turtle island, the guide welcomed us and guided our trip there. We looked and take pictures with turtles, I was too scary to lift up the big turtles, so I was just took a picture close to them. I also took pictures with flamingo, iguana, eagle, and I forgot the rest. We went back and we waited for our friends who didn’t finish their activities yet. We also had a lunch in that place, wow it was quite amazing.

Pandawa Beach

We reached Pandawa Beach at 2.30 p.m. It was the most beautiful beach that I have visited! It was quite clean, beautiful view, no rubbish, oh my God it was like an earth paradise. There were some volley competitions for the boys of each class. I didn’t watch the competition, I was sat with Quin, Fia, Hillma, Yaritsa, and some other girls in a cafĂ©. I didn’t buy anything, because the prices of the foods were too high I thought. We only accompanied Hillma who ate pop mie and Quin who drank coconut water.

Garuda Wisnu kencana

We went to Garuda Wisnu Kencana at 4.00 p.m. then reached the location at 4.30 p.m. We went up stair and walked, we took pictures of the very big statue. It was a statue of the important character for Hindu’s followers. At 6.00 we watched Kecak Dance, it was a little bit bored performance I thought, but it’s okay it was also the first time I watched Kecak Dance in real life. There were photo sessions, we took pictures with all of 3’2016 students. It was great!

Jimbaran Bay

We reached jimbaran at 7.30 p.m. and had a dinner. There were also jimbaran performance, a girl who dance a traditional dance called “pendet dance”. There were also surprises for the ones whose birthday was that day, they were given cakes birthday and presents. We had a dinner with a seafood menus, like big shrimps, grilled fishes, oysters, and many more. After that, every class was given a lampion. We gained the lampion to fly. It was beautiful, I didn’t join to gain the lampion because I made a video of that beautiful moment.

Went Back to Nirmala Hotel

At 9.30 p.m. we went back to Nirmala Hotel, we reached the hotel at 10.30 p.m. I was very sleepy, I had felt asleep on a sofa before took a bath. But I woke up again after 30 minutes sleeping. I took a bath at 00.30 a.m. it was a very cold bath haha. But it was not bad, clean body, clean mind, no home works, no assignments, I really enjoy the days.

I’m sorry I think it is too long if I tell you till we went back to Bandung. Next time, I will tell you till the last day of our vacation. But I will give you the photos. Thank you ^_^

Here they are!
